WILD FLOWER AREA
As you can see from the photos and the slide show below, this area is greatly improved on the general ‘dumping’ site it had become and we already have a number of established wild flowers which we hope will seed prolifically during the summer.

Flowers in the photos are red corn poppy, cerise corn cockle, white feverfew, pink opium poppy, teasels and of course clover & thistles. Others, unseen include wild primrose, foxgloves, mallow, arum, St John’s Wort, viola and ox-eye daisies and currently in August, we have some lovely field scabious in flower. Although hidden by the flowers, there is a circular log pathway – half of which is in place but the rest still to be set in.

During the autumn, we hope to cut back the nettles and under-plant the hedge with wild daffodils, English bluebells and add a few more foxgloves and wild primrose – there will also be a considerable amount of weeding to do, as the site has a number of other hardy perennials such as docks, dandelions and buttercup.

LADYBIRD SURVEY
A new ladybird has arrived in Britain. But not just any ladybird: this is the harlequin ladybird, Harmonia axyridis, the most invasive ladybird on Earth.
Monitoring ladybirds across the country has never been more important. We want YOU to get involved! Please record your harlequin ladybird sightings. Visit www.harlequin-survey.org for more information. Click HERE to view the most prominent UK ladybird species.
